An unusual item, evidently struck as a trial for the upcoming circulating type, but placed on a pre-existing medal with the obverse of the under-type having been evidently defaced prior to striking and a wreath showing through bluntness on the reverse. A very choice item and for the collector of Birrs, an essential piece.
