EINSTEIN ALBERT: (1879-1955) German-born Theoretical Physicist, Nobel Prize winner for Physics, 1921.

EINSTEIN ALBERT: (1879-1955) German-born Theoretical Physicist, Nobel Prize winner for Physics, 1921. Vintage signed 8 x 10 photograph, the image lightly affixed at the corners to a card mount by a discerning collector (as opposed to a studio photographer) and depicting Einstein in a head and shoulders pose with his hands clasped beneath his chin. The image is taken from a vintage print of a photograph by Yousuf Karsh in 1948. Signed (‘A. Einstein’) by Einstein in black fountain pen ink to the lower mount and dated 1955 in his hand. A note in the hand of a collector to the verso indicates that the photograph was signed at Princeton, New Jersey. Some light staining and minor corner creasing to the mount, otherwise about VG The present photograph was signed by Einstein in the last months of his life; he passed away at Princeton Hospital on 18th April 1955 having refused surgery and declaring, ‘I want to go when I want. It is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share; it is time to go. I will do it elegantly.’
