A native tribal Australian Aboriginal broad shield 19th century, Murray river region, of elongated convex form with slight longitudinal twist, hardwood with fine zig-zag carving, ochre curved channels resulting in navette form reserves to each side with dot decoration, two handle holes to centre but lacking handle, 37¼in. (94.4cm.) long, 9½in. (24.2cm.) wide. * Provenance: Purchased from an English private collection approx. 25 years ago in the West Midlands.
