A Queen Anne walnut and parcel-gilt bureau bookcase , early 18th century and later, the double-domed top set with gilt-ball finials, above a pair of arched engraved glass-inset doors enclosing a fitted interior, above a fall front and four drawers, raised on bun feet, 92cm wide 56cm deep 202cm high Condition Report General surface wear, small knocks, splits, losses and repairs and replacement to veneer throughout commensurate with age and use. Indication of a degree of professional attention, likely at the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century. Top and base possibly associated. Some repair and replacement to moulding and herringbone inlay. The bun feet are replacements. Finials and blocks appear later. Some shrinkage splits to fall and sides. Exterior metalware is in the period style but later, with old plugged holes from previous handles and plates. Evidence of some repair and replacement to the doors, including moulding, with shadows of old hinges to the edges of the cabinet. The glass is a pleasant greyish colour and is showing signs of age, but is possibly also replaced. Some losses, repairs and replacement to the interior, inlcluding some replaced divisions. Some interior knobs lacking. Gilt elements have been refreshed. The lock later. The leather within the fall is replaced. Some marks and ink stains within. Later tape and blocks to drawers. Lower section backboards possibly later. Joints sound and solid. Doors, drawers and slides all open and close easily. Overall appears structurally stable and is ready for use.
