“Irma to Come in Earnest” warned a news headline of September 2017, as the category-five hurricane swept through the Caribbean and bore down on Florida. Its arrival is the subject of Julius von Bismarck’s eponymous film by the same name. In an attempt to fathom the essence of a hurricane beyond the media spectacle, the black-and-white footage is drastically slowed down, taking in rain and debris swirling through empty streets, submerged cars, and houses in disarray.
"it is not as dangerous as it is traumatic (2022)" is part of a series of film-stills that only through a recent technological development in image processing can be extracted in printable quality. In the series the images deriving from von Bismarck’s film are paired with quotes from the live coverage during the storm’s peak, mirroring not only Irma’s force but also the broadcasting infotainment.

„Irma to Come in Earnest", warnte eine Schlagzeile im September 2017, als der Kategorie-5-Hurrikan durch die Karibik fegte und sich auf Florida zubewegte. Sein Eintreffen ist das zentrale Thema des gleichnamigen Films von Julius von Bismarck. In dem Bemühen, das Wesen eines Wirbelsturmes jenseits des Medienspektakels zu ergründen, sind die Schwarz-Weiß-Aufnahmen drastisch verlangsamt und zeigen Regen und Trümmer durch leere Straßen, überschwemmte Autos und zerstörte Häuser wirbeln.
Die Arbeit „it is not as dangerous as it is traumatic" (2022) ist Teil einer Serie von Filmstills, die erst Dank neuester technologischer Entwicklungen im Bereich der Bildbearbeitung in druckfähiger Qualität extrahiert werden können. In der Serie werden die aus von Bismarcks Film stammenden Bilder mit Zitaten aus den Live-Nachrichten während des Sturmhöhepunkts gekoppelt und spiegeln so nicht nur die Stärke von Irma, sondern auch das Infotainment der Berichterstattung wider.
